New York played a vital strategic role throughout the American Revolution. Nearly one-third of the war’s engagements took place in the state, and British forces occupied New York City from 1776 until the war ended in 1783.  Amid this turmoil, New Yorkers were at odds with each other, as some joined the loyalist cause while others supported independence. What must it have been like to live through this period of great change and upheaval? Join Chief Genealogist David Allen Lambert as he shines a light on this era of New York’s history. He will discuss the events that shaped your ancestors' lives and highlight key records and resources for researching your New York ancestors during the Revolution.

Registration includes access to:

  • Live lecture presented on Zoom, with 15-minute Q&A
  • Lecture recording, available to review for the foreseeable future
  • Lecture handout
  • PDF handouts of the lecture slides
