Is your closet bursting with boxes of old family photographs, letters, scrapbooks, and other documents from your family history research? In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the best practices for digitizing your family treasures. Archivist June Henry will discuss recommended equipment, file storage, and the ins and outs of scanning and photographing your materials. She will also provide a tour of American Ancestors' scanning equipment.

Then, you’ll be able to put what you’ve learned into practice by using provided flatbed scanners to digitize a family document. You’ll walk away with the knowledge and skills to return home and digitize your entire collection!

What to Bring:

  • Family item(s) for scanning, no more than 7-10 pages/scans total. The item(s) should be uncound or loosely bound so that they can lie flat on a flatbed scanner. Items can include photographs, letters, and other documents.
  • Thumb drive or external hard drive for storage (optional)
  • Notebook and pen/pencil for notetaking
